"Really easy for writing notes"
I found this app easy to use , and it didn’t take me long to figure things out . Writing and keeping my notes organized feels simple and smooth . I’m giving it four stars because a few of the settings are kind of tucked away

"It’s good overall, but it..."
It’s good overall, but it definitely takes some learning at first. I was a bit confused getting started, and when I reached out, the canned apology responses were kind of annoying instead of actually helpful. Once I got the hang of it, though, it worked fine.

"Great for focusing, just a little pricey"
I’ve been using Ulysses for a bit, mostly when I want to sit down and write without like 20 buttons or menus distracting me. The whole app feels really clean and calm, which I like a lot. That said, a few of the settings took me maybe 10 or 15 minutes to figure out, and the subscription feels a bit steep for how casually I use it. Overall though, it’s still solid if you just want a simple writing space.

"I do like using Ulysses for writing, and..."
I do like using Ulysses for writing, and when it’s working, it’s a really smooth app. But the stability has been hit or miss for me. Most days it’s fine, then out of nowhere it’ll freeze or just close when I’m switching between files. It kind of feels like this is the sort of thing that should’ve been caught or cleaned up by now. Not a total dealbreaker, but annoying enough that I can’t really give it more than 3 stars.

"Fair price, though I still get mixed up on the subscription"
I think Ulysses is fairly priced for what it does. I signed up a while back, or maybe it was after the trial ended, I don’t totally remember the timing, but I do remember feeling like the price wasn’t outrageous. I’m never thrilled about adding another subscription, but if you write a lot, it does make sense. I just wish there was a cheaper light plan for people who only open it now and then. Overall, the pricing feels reasonable to me, just not quite a 5-star thing.

"I’ve been using the sheets and groups setup..."
I’ve been using the sheets and groups setup to keep my writing more sorted, and it’s helpful, especailly on bigger projects. Moving things around is usually simple enough, though it did take me a bit to get the hang of it. A little fiddly at first, but overall it works well.

"I like the app overall, but trying..."
I like the app overall, but trying to organize my documents gets confusing way too quickly?! The folders and tags just feel kind of awkward to manage, and I wish it was a bit more straightforward.

"Just feels too slow for everyday writing"
I really wanted Ulysses to click for me, but my brain quickly filed it under “too much friction.” Opening things takes longer than I expect, and even typing doesn’t always feel as smooth as it should. For a writing app, that’s kind of the one shortcut I rely on: if it feels quick, I trust it and keep going.
Sync was another spot where I kept getting pulled out of the flow. I’d catch myself waiting around instead of writing, and after a while my gut just said, nope, this isn’t worth the hassle. Maybe it runs great for other people, but on my setup it feels too heavy for daily use

"Kind of regretting buying this"
I picked this up because I wanted to be able to write anywhere, especially without worrying about internet access. But the offline mode has been a hassle. Things don’t always load when I need them, and then syncing everything later can get messy. For a writing app, that feels like a basic thing to get right. I’m kind of wishing I’d looked around more before buying it.

"Publishing integrations feel a bit unreliable"
I really wanted this to feel smooth, but the WordPress upload kept failing more often than I expected. It got frustrating after a while and made the whole publishing flow feel kind of flaky.

"I don’t know if I’m doing something..."
I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if the app just doesn’t like my iPad, but my drafts don’t show up there. They’re on my other device, so I feel like they should just magically be there too. Makes the whole syncing thing feel unreliable

"Markdown editing felt more messy than helpful"
I got Ulysses mainly because I wanted to use it for markdown, but it kept getting in my way. The syntax hiding and the preview behavior made a simple edits feel more confusing instead of cleaner.
Exporting markdown also wasn’t as smooth as I expected. I still had to fix a small things after, which was frustrating for the price. I just wanted plain editor that worked normally, so I cancelled after a few days.

"Version history saved my draft one afternoon"
I mostly use Ulysses for longer notes and writing drafts, and I didn’t think much about the backup or versioning features until I actually needed them. One afternoon I was editing a file, got a little too confident, and managed to mess up a section I really wanted to keep. After a bit of poking around, I found the older version and restored the part I needed, which was a huge relief. It wasn’t the most obvious thing to find at first, but once I figured it out, it worked just fine. Solid app overall — 4 stars from me.

"Nice clean app, mostly easy to use"
I’ve been using this for writing and the interface is probably my favorite part. It feels calm and not crowded, which somehow makes my writing feel more organized even if I’m not actually writing better, haha. The sidebar was simple to figure out, and the main writing screen looks clean. I did have to poke around for a bit to find a few settings, so that was a little annoying, but not a huge deal. Overall it just feels less messy to write in. I’d give it 4 stars.

"At first, I was impressed. The editor..."
At first, I was impressed. The editor is clean, smooth, and just feels nice to write in. But the second I tried using it for actual paid client work, the drama began. Export styles were weirdly fussy, sync acted up on me twice, and once the project got bigger, everything started feeling way too cramped and limited. For quick notes or messy first drafts, sure, it’s totally fine. But when deadlines are closing in and revisions are flying around, this is not the tool I want to be fighting with.

"Privacy seems alright, but the settings took some digging"
I’ve been using it for a little while now, mostly in the evenings after work when I’m just trying to get a few things done, and overall it works fine. I didn’t notice anything that made me especially worried about privacy, but the data settings felt a bit tucked away. I eventually found what I needed, but I wish the controls were more obvious and easier to understand without having to click around so much.

"Not gonna lie, the export options were frustrating"
Not gonna lie, I was annoyed that I couldn’t export things the way I needed to. The options felt way too limited, and it made a simple task more frustrating than it should’ve been.

"Search works, but am I the only one annoyed by the filters?"
The search itself is totally fine and usually gets me where I need to go. But am I the only one who feels like the filters are a bit too limited? I keep wishing there were more options to narrow things down properly

"Pretty handy for keeping writing goals on track"
I’ve been using it to keep an eye on my writing goals and… yeah, it works well. The stats are clear enough that I can see where I’m at without overthinking it, which is kind of exactly what I needed.

"Just doesn’t feel worth the price now"
I don’t know, it just feels way too expensive for what you actually get. I used to be okay with the subscription, but now I keep looking at the price and thinking, wait, why am I still paying for this? It’s not terrible or anything, but for the cost, I expected more. Anyway, I ended up feeling like it’s just not worth keeping anymore.
